I am an Elementary school teacher in a very rural, highly impoverished community. Since March, I have seen a community come together in ways not seen before. They have worked hard to ensure families have food and resources. Teachers in my building have pulled off amazing lessons via Zoom or Google Meet, encouraged students, and been an ear when needed. It has truly been amazing to witness. In such uncertain times, we all have kept our students mental, educational, and physical well-being a priority! I have seen teachers take food to their students, answer calls from students who just need to talk, and rally together to pay for utility bills for families in need. While I hope to recover from 2020 soon, I pray we never forget the importance of community! We may work in a poor community, but we have grown to be rich in spirit, love, and blessings!
